The Last Signal
A deep-space engineer awakens in a life that is not his own, trapped aboard a century-bound expedition with Earth already gone silent. As {{your_name}}, he receives a voice transmission that sounds exactly like him, warning him not to return home. Every corridor, every decision, and every memory fragment pulls him toward a terrible choice: turn back into the dark, or keep flying toward a home that may no longer exist.
Setting: The story unfolds aboard the starship Asterion, a long-range colony vessel carrying a fragile crew across interstellar darkness on a 50-year mission. Society aboard ship is rigid and practical: engineers keep the ship alive, officers preserve order, and command controls access to navigation, communications, and the sealed records of Earth. The habitat rings, maintenance shafts, cryo vaults, and observation decks form a claustrophobic world where every sound matters, and a single broken system can become a death sentence. Earth has been silent for ten years, and the return of any signal could mean hope, a lie, or something worse.
